AVON PRODUCT REVIEW: MAGIX TINTED MOISTURIZERS
With warmer months around the corner, tinted moisturizers are a popular alternative that many use instead of foundation. What exactly is a tinted moisturizer? Well, it’s pretty self explanatory in it’s name. It’s a moisturizer that provides a light tint to your skin. This is a great option if you are looking for something that is going to be lightweight and even out your skin tone. This is a popular choice for those who are in their teens & 20’s and usually best for those with dry to combination skin. However, over recent years, makeup brands have begun to widen those who can use tinted moisturizers by providing oil free formulas so those with oily skin and other skincare ingredients which are beneficial to those with aging skin.
Magix Collection
A couple years ago, Avon launched a new makeup brand called Magix. The main purpose of this brand is to provide makeup products that can be used to help simplify your makeup routine & enhance your natural beauty. Right now, Avon offers 4 types of products in the Magix Collection:
- Prime Face Perfector: A universal, shine-stopping, pore-diffusing primer smooths the way for flawless, all-day makeup wear. As amazing as a disappearing act, this face perfector blurs imperfections, mattifies skin, protects with SPF 20 and locks in your makeup—all in one step!

ALTERNATIVES:
As I said earlier, tinted moisturizers have become very popular the last few years. As a result, more and more makeup brands and even skincare brands have tinted moisturizers. Because of this, there is a variety to choose from at all types of price points. I came across this article from Elle, that lists the best tinted moisturizers based on what you may be looking for in your tinted moisturizer. For example (Penrose & Hall, 2020)…
- For skincare lovers: Honest Beauty Clean Corrective with Vitamin C $21.99
- For dewy-looking skin: Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint $26
- For sheer coverage: Perricone MD No Makeup Foundation with SPF 30 $60
- For all skin types: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector with SPF 30 $47
- For hydration: Lancome Skin Feels Good Hydrating Skin Tint Healthy Glow Foundation with SPF 23 $35
- For a glow: Kosas Tinted Face Oil $42
- For oily skin: Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 $36
- For dry skin: BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Moisturizer $33
As you can see, there are a variety of tinted moisturizers on the market which is great becase there are a variety different types of skin types & preferences. The tricky part is finding one from a brand you trust at a price you can afford.
My Pros
- Lightweight
- Easy to blend out no matter how you apply (fingers, brush, sponge)
- Little goes a long way
- Shade range goes from light to deep
- Provides hydration to my skin
My Cons
- Natural Matte Tinted Moisturizer felt heavier then other two
- Brightening Tinted Moisturizer shade range can be improved
- Brightening Tinted Moisturizer did feel “oilier” then the rest on hot days
- When choosing shade, go lighter than you normally would
- Coverage doesn’t last all day (get a couple hours at most)
What Avon Customers Are Saying
One of the many benefits of shopping Avon online is that you are able to check out what other customers have to say about a product.
Heather from Undisclosed
“Goes pretty far you don’t need much, the only thing that is hard for me is It makes my skin feel a little oily but I am senestive to things on my entire face in the first place. It’s a good product and has good coverage for just being tinted it’s also more affordable then most of the tinted moisturizer on the market!”
Marcel from Undisclosed
“Apply for my live feeds on fb as I don’t wear foundation daily. Smooths out skin tone and has light coverage”
CBK from Orlando, FL
“I dislike foundations as they always seem to settle in my fine lines, and I could never get the color right. I tried Tinted Magix expecting it to be the same. I was so wrong. This is light, smooths out skin tone, gives your face a finished and perfect look (think a photo with a filter, but you do not need a filter now!) It hides blemishes, imperfections, and gives you a glow. Definitely give this a try.”

My Final Thoughts
When Avon launched the original Magix Brightening Tinted Moisturizer a couple years ago, I was super excited. This was going to be something I would be able to quickly apply each morning and still look put together even though it would take me less than five minutes. I was super disappointed how I was unable to use this all year round. I noticed as the weather got warmer and my combination skin became more oilier, this tinted moisturizer stopped feeling lightweight & hydrating and started feeling heavy & super greasy like which are the two things I absolutely hate the most for my skin. I don’t know… it just makes me feel “dirty”.
So, when Avon announced earlier this year they will be launching two new types of Magix Tinted Moisturizers, I of course was super happy, especially when I saw what types of tinted moisturizers they would be launching. So, I decided to try out all three tinted moisturizers and see which ones I prefer and which ones I could recommend to my customers. I will say, having combination skin, the benefit is I am able to tell what products are great for dry skin and what products are great for oily skin. Because of this, I did a full day wear test for each tinted moisturizer & shared it on my Tik Tok page.
Before applying, each day, I made sure to do the same skin prep, doing the same morning skincare routine and using the same primer ( I was testing out the Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer at this time). To much of my surprise, I actually enjoyed the Brightening Tinted Moisturizer. I will say, I did use this early spring when the weather in my area was still rather cold & my skin was not struggling with oiliness at this time. Since then, I did use this one a couple more times and I noticed on days that I do struggle with oily skin or when it is hotter, the Brightening Tinted Moisturizer did give me that “greasy” feeling again. So, personally I will not use this until Fall & Winter when my skin is not struggling with oiliness and weather is colder.
The Natural Matte Tinted Moisturizer was another that surprised me. Right away I did not like it because it felt heavy on the skin. Plus, I did not feel that it “mattified” my skin as it states in it’s name. It did blend out smoothly like the others but I personally do not like having my skin feel like I have a ton of makeup on, especially when using a tinted moisturizer. This is no full coverage foundation here, yet it felt like I had a heavy foundation on.
For me, the one I could wear all year round, with no issues at all is the Oil=Free Tinted Moisturizer. I was pleasantly surprised in how my skin felt hydrated yet it was lightweight and didn’t give me that greasy, heavy feeling I’ve experienced with other tinted moisturizers. If you are someone who struggles with any type of oiliness, I highly recommend this tinted moisturizer. I will say, I have not yet used this in the middle of summer when it is extremely hot, but based on my own experience of testing & trying out products, I feel that this will pass just fine. To be honest, this is the one I will be recommending to all of my customers. I feel that even if you have dryer skin, the niacinamide (known to support skin barrier which helps skin hold onto hydration) & green tea extract (known to help moisturize skin & treat skin issues like acne) formula is going to work with their skin as well, especially in the summer time when we are all sweating, regardless of your skin type.
