With it being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I think it is very important for us moms to teach our girls how to be women who can not only see the signs of an abuser but also have the strength to leave when they do see them.
With my daughter turning 18 in December, I hope I have taught her these 10 life lessons, many of them I had to learn the hard way:
- Don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself because life is too short to sweat the small stuff.
- Don’t dim your light so others feel better about themselves.
- Going after what you want out of life does not mean you are a snob or a bitch.
- Have the courage to stand up for yourself as well as for those who can not stand up for themselves
- It’s not about the quantity of friends you have, it’s about the quality.
- Listen to your gut because it will never steer you wrong
- The most important person you can love is yourself.
- Show compassion because everyone has struggles & no one is perfect.
- Take responsibility of your actions because that is how you learn & grow.
- You won’t click with everyone but that doesn’t mean you can be disrespectful or he/she can be disrespectful to you.
As I see my daughter become her own, I have to say I am lucky to have such an amazing daughter & I am so proud of the woman she is becoming!
