Taking Care of Your Skin

When you hear skin care, many think of their face. With it being the first thing we show the world, many feel that this is the most important beauty routine. However, the best skincare routine consists of your whole body. Taking care of your skin from your head to feet is important. Your skin is the “first line of defense against the outside world and needs to be healthy in order to protect you effectively” (Vaseline, 2017). It is important to:

• Cleanse in a luke warm shower daily with a gentle soap, body wash
• Exfoliate 2-3 x’s a week to remove unwanted dead, dry skin cells

Neck & Chest

Many stop at the jawline when it comes to taking care of their skin. Miami dermatologist Leslie Baumann, MD “suggests using the skin care products you use on your face on your neck and chest as well — simply get in the habit of cleansing and moisturizing those areas in the same way” (Total Beauty, 2017). If you want to go the extra mile, you should use cream specific for your neck & chest due to the fact that this skin area is more prone to sagging skin & volume loss.

It is recommended to shave after being in the shower for about 3 minutes. This will give your pores time to open up, making it easier to shave the hair & minimizing in grown hairs. Feet

There are two types of Bug Guard formulas- Picaridin & IR3535. “IR3535 & Picaridin are recommended by many healthcare providers [as the best alternative to DEET which can cause health side effects]” (Mosquito Repellent Insider, 2017).
   • • Picaridin is an EPA registered chemical repellent developed by Bayer AG as the best alternative to DEET due to it “is not known to irritate skin and eyes, does not have a pungent odor like DEET and does not dissolve plastics (EPA 2005). It evaporates from the skin more slowly than DEET or IR3535 and may repel bugs for longer periods (Debboun et al. 2007)” (EWG, 2017).  Picaridin gives about 8 hours of protection by repelling & killing insects.
     • IR3535 is a synthesized oil repellent developed by Merck KGA categorized by the EPA as a biopesticide. “IR3535 can be very irritating to the eyes but poses few other safety risks.”(EWG, 2017) It repels bugs but does not kill them.
