Just like with any job there will be positives & negatives. If you are checking out this blog then you are most likely researching to decide if starting an Avon business is the right decision for you or if you are like me, enrolled without “thinking” and now seeing if you made the right choice. Below is a list of pros & cons I have found in my own experience and my own research.

With Avon’s earning chart, the more you sell & grow your team, the more you will earn. There is no cap in how much you can earn in Avon sales or leadership.
On top of your normal sales & leadership earnings you can earn even more with Avon incentives such as FREE trips, cash bonuses, FREE prizes and more.

PRO: You Are Not in This Alone
Starting any business can be scary and nerve wracking. What helped me the most when I started my business was the amazing support system I had access to. When you register as an Avon representative, you will be assigned a mentor. This will be your go to person who will help support & guide you as you start and grow your business.
Representatives on my team receive training emails personally from me as well as opportunities to meet whenever you may need the extra help. If you have any questions or concerns along the way, I am available to you via text or email.
On top of receiving support from your mentor, you can find a wide variety of resources online from other representatives such as YouTube videos, blogs and Facebook Groups.

PRO: FREE Training & Web Office
As an Avon representative, you will have access to your personal youravon.com. This is where you will be able to enjoy your FREE training as well as tools to help you manage your business. Avon U offers mini courses where you can learn how to grow and manage your business at your own pace. You can learn as much or as little as you feel is necessary.

PRO: You are the Boss!
You have control on how, when & where you run your business. You can create your very own home based business that fits around your schedule. With no sales or party requirements like other direct selling companies, you are able to create a business that best fits your personality & your lifestyle. Actually, it is recommended to work your business into your life! Have a full time job? Share your brochures with coworkers or leave a few in the break room. Are you a soccer mom? Talk to other moms about your business and share samples for them to try on the spot. Travel alot? Leave business cards and brochures everywhere you go. It is amazing how easy you can work your Avon business right into your life and earn money while doing it.

CON: It is NOT a Get Rich Quick Scheme
I’m sure you are wondering how is this a con? This is actually one of the biggest complaints from ex-representatives who were expecting to get rich in a short amount of time. There are representatives who earn over 6 figures, however, it took time & effort to get to where they are.
Currently, Avon is offering a way to help *NEW* representatives create a solid foundation for their Avon business with the Kickstart Incentive program. It is designed to not only show the earnings potential that is available to them with a successful Avon business but also provide them a way to have a solid base financially to work with. The Kickstart incentive consists of 3 components:
- Sales Component: Earn 40% on ALL sales when you meet your campaign sales goal.
- Recruitment Component: Receive $50 Recruitment Bonus for each qualified *NEW* recruit

Just like with any business you will encounter “competition”. As an Avon representative, this can mean other representatives in your local area, other direct selling companies or even stores. Avon offers a wide variety of products including beauty, fashion, jewelry, home decor and more. So this will obviously open the door for competition. Avon is a well known brand that provides quality products. By providing excellent customer service and opportunities for people to try the products, your business will grow.
CON: You are the Boss
I know I mentioned this as a pro but if you think about it, this can be a con too! As a boss, you are in charge of your own motivation and work ethic towards your business. You won’t have anyone over you making sure you do what needs to be done to work your business. I recommend to all the representatives on my team to come up with a routine as soon as possible. Having a routine will help you stay on track and know what needs to be done on any given day.

CON: Ups & Downs
Just like with any business, or really anything in life, you will have ups & downs with your Avon business. There are slow periods just like with any business. But as long as you stay consistent and don’t give up your business will continue to grow and you will continue to earn money.
As you can see the power is in your hands. If you are looking to start an Avon business to earn a certain amount of money, whether it is a little or a lot, it is going to be up to you to set goals, be consistent and keep at it. As I always say to my kids when they want something, “when there is a will, there’s a way”.
