Avon Product Review Anew Clean Cleansing Brush

Avon Product Review: Anew Clean Cleansing Brush

Having a daily skincare routine is essential in having healthy, younger looking skin. In 1992, Avon launched Anew, the first skincare line with Alpha Hydroxy Acid technology. Since then, Avon has helped women look & feel their best each day with technologically advanced formulated skincare products in moisturizers, targeted treatment products & more. Avon has nearly 600 patents or patents pending thanks to the hundreds of scientists at the Avon Skincare Institute (a state of the art research & developmental lab with facilities all over the world) & their partnerships with top universities & dermatologists, such as certified dermatologist Dr. Kim Nichols.

Starting Off Your Skincare Routine Right

The most important thing a person can do to care for their skin is have a daily routine. There are 4 important steps that must occur in the morning & at night:

  1. Cleanse your skin
  2. Treat your skin
  3. Moisturize your skin
  4. Treat your eyes

In 2017, Avon launched a *NEW* sub brand for Anew with Anew Clean. With the addition of the Anew Clean line,  customers are now able to purchase all of their skincare products for all 4 steps that will work together & provide the best results for their specific skin type & skincare concerns.

The Anew Clean line consists of:

Anew Clean Cleansing Brush

Enjoy ultra soft bristles that will gently & effectively remove dirt & impurities from your skin with Anew Clean Cleansing Brush. According to dermatologist Jason Emer, “a face brush allows the dead skin cells to exfoliate quicker, and from that produce more collagen, and gradually, get tighter skin. Plus, it removes any oil or debris that’s plugging pores and allows medication to penetrate skin better.” (Catherine Devine- Allure, 2013)

Best For:

Anyone with any skin type & is looking for a much more effective way to clean their skin on a daily basis.

  • Effectively removes impurities & leaves your skin feeling clean
  • Mild & gentle on your skin
  • Non-stripping
  • Suitable for 2x daily use (AM & PM)
  • Cleans 5x better than hands alone
  • Suitable for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin
  • Enhances Anew Clean foam, cream & gel cleansers

If you are looking for a cleansing system to treat & eliminate acne, Avon’s Clearskin Professional Acne Treatment System is a great alternative. This is a 3 step regimen kit designed to fight all phases of the acne cycle—before, during and after a breakout. Formulated with a blend of 3 key ingredients: Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Avon Exclusive Zinc Hexapeptide-11. The Clearskin Professional Acne Treatment System comes with:

My Pros

  • My skin felt super soft & smooth when I was done.
  • My skin actually felt super clean, like a brand *NEW* face
  • Vibrated & not spinned
  • Super easy to put the brush on & off
  • Clean up was quick & easy
  • Easy to use with my daily cleanser I was already using (not an Anew Clean cleanser… Shhh lol).
  • Comes with a stand so the brush is kept upright
  • Much more affordable compared to other facial cleansing brushes on the market

My Cons

  • When I first used it, didn’t feel like it was doing anything “special”
  • Took over a week for my skin to clear up & break outs to minimize

One of the many benefits of shopping Avon online is that you are able to check out what other customers have to say about a product. Here are what some customers said about Anew Clean Cleansing Brush:

Megan from Des Moines, IA: 5/5 Stars

“I started using this brush as a last ditch effort to get my acne under control. I’m 36 years old and still dealing with major cystic acne. I believe I must not have been getting my skin clean enough because as soon as I started using this with my usual AVON facial wash, I saw a huge improvement in my skin. I’ve been using it for a month and no huge painful breakouts since. I think it does the extra scrubbing of my skin that using my hands was missing!”

Tarjara from St. Louis: 5/5 Stars (For those who are wondering why a vibrating brush is better than a spinning brush)

“I have noticed a lot of people complain that it doesn’t spin . Only the cheap brushes that aren’t good for your skin do that . If you look at the very expensive brushes you will notice that they also “only vibrate”. This is because the vibration actually works the “gunk” out of your pores instead of scrubbing it back in. This is why [the Anew Clean Cleansing Brush] is great. When my stupid expensive brush broke I tried this and I was so happy I didn’t have to spend that [much] money again.”

Mem from Lansing, MI: 1/5 Stars

“[The] brush is way too soft [and] you can barely feel it. Please make a harder/stiffer brush.”

Craon from Lake Charles, LA: 2/5 Stars

“Was a little disappointed. Expected a little more from [this] product.”

Krystal from Columbus, OH: 4/5 Stars

“I am loving [the Anew Clean Cleansing Brush]. Normally I use my hands and a wash cloth to clean my face. After using this brush, I have noticeably cleaner skin. It even feels softer! This product has helped cut my cleansing time in half, and does a better job than I did without it. I like this brush so much, I don’t only recommend this product, but I am also buying one for my sister as a Christmas present.”

According to the Anew Clean Cleansing Brush product page on www.avon.com, 87% of customers who reviewed the product would recommend this product to their friend & the average rating is 4.5 out of 5 stars.

My Final Thought:

I have to admit the first time I used the product my original thought was, “What’s the big deal about these cleansing brushes?” I didn’t feel any difference with my skin when I was using the product for the first time. However, I have to admit once I completed my cleansing process, I immediately noticed a difference & my skin felt super refreshed & super clean. I literally felt like I had a new layer of skin and when I touched my skin it felt smoother then it’s felt in a long time.

Like many of you, I originally didn’t care for the fact that the cleansing brush didn’t spin. Little did I know that having the brush vibrate is actually more beneficial than a spinning brush. If you really sit there & think about it, it does make sense. “Sonic [aka vibrating] cleansing brushes work differently [then the spinning cleansing brushes], with the oscillations helping to push dirt and grim out of the pores, for deep cleansing without harsh exfoliation.” (Look Fantastic, 2016) Spinning cleansing brushes tend to drag the skin (basically just moving dirt around your face) and exfoliate your skin too harshly. When you are cleaning your face, you want to remove any dirt & dead skin cells. That is it. When you start exfoliating too much of your skin, it will start taking away the good with bad resulting in dryer, uneven skin & most likely more breakouts.

One thing I did not care for was the fact that my skin seemed to have break out more when I began using the brush. Personally, there are normally only 2 reasons my skin will begin to really break out: stress & a couple days before my monthly visitor (*wink*). So, when my skin began to break out even more so than normal, I began to think that maybe using a cleansing brush wasn’t the best for my skin. I stuck with it, knowing that most skincare products need at least 2 full weeks of daily use before you will begin to see real results. I have to say I was very happy that I did stick with it, because after using the Anew Clean Cleansing Brush a little over a week, I began to notice my breakouts dramatically disappearing, even in my trouble areas (all along my hairline & my chin). Apparently having breakouts the first couple days of using a cleansing brush is normal… Who knew!

So for those rookies out there like me, here are some tips from dermatologist Jason Emer (Catherine Devine- Allure, 2013) on how to minimize the initial breakout:

  • Use a fash wash with acne treatments such as a salicylic or glycolic acid before you use your brush for the first time as a preventative measure
  • Ease the brush into your routine. Try using it once or twice a week at first and slowly build up your use. Normal skin types can potentially use it every day, while those with more sensitive complexions should stick with once or twice a week.
  • Follow up your cleansing with any topical medications you may use, then with moisturizer and SPF.

I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a more effective way to clean their face, especially with those who struggle with acne. I have 2 children who use this product in their daily facial cleansing routine (one who has struggled with acne problems for years & another who is dealing with the puberty stage breakout we are all familiar with). Both absolutely love this product & have seen their face clear up dramatically to the point that they need to use other acne treatment products.
