My Final Thought:
I have to admit the first time I used the product my original thought was, “What’s the big deal about these cleansing brushes?” I didn’t feel any difference with my skin when I was using the product for the first time. However, I have to admit once I completed my cleansing process, I immediately noticed a difference & my skin felt super refreshed & super clean. I literally felt like I had a new layer of skin and when I touched my skin it felt smoother then it’s felt in a long time.
Like many of you, I originally didn’t care for the fact that the cleansing brush didn’t spin. Little did I know that having the brush vibrate is actually more beneficial than a spinning brush. If you really sit there & think about it, it does make sense. “Sonic [aka vibrating] cleansing brushes work differently [then the spinning cleansing brushes], with the oscillations helping to push dirt and grim out of the pores, for deep cleansing without harsh exfoliation.” (Look Fantastic, 2016) Spinning cleansing brushes tend to drag the skin (basically just moving dirt around your face) and exfoliate your skin too harshly. When you are cleaning your face, you want to remove any dirt & dead skin cells. That is it. When you start exfoliating too much of your skin, it will start taking away the good with bad resulting in dryer, uneven skin & most likely more breakouts.
One thing I did not care for was the fact that my skin seemed to have break out more when I began using the brush. Personally, there are normally only 2 reasons my skin will begin to really break out: stress & a couple days before my monthly visitor (*wink*). So, when my skin began to break out even more so than normal, I began to think that maybe using a cleansing brush wasn’t the best for my skin. I stuck with it, knowing that most skincare products need at least 2 full weeks of daily use before you will begin to see real results. I have to say I was very happy that I did stick with it, because after using the Anew Clean Cleansing Brush a little over a week, I began to notice my breakouts dramatically disappearing, even in my trouble areas (all along my hairline & my chin). Apparently having breakouts the first couple days of using a cleansing brush is normal… Who knew!
So for those rookies out there like me, here are some tips from dermatologist Jason Emer (Catherine Devine- Allure, 2013) on how to minimize the initial breakout:
- Use a fash wash with acne treatments such as a salicylic or glycolic acid before you use your brush for the first time as a preventative measure
- Ease the brush into your routine. Try using it once or twice a week at first and slowly build up your use. Normal skin types can potentially use it every day, while those with more sensitive complexions should stick with once or twice a week.
- Follow up your cleansing with any topical medications you may use, then with moisturizer and SPF.

I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a more effective way to clean their face, especially with those who struggle with acne. I have 2 children who use this product in their daily facial cleansing routine (one who has struggled with acne problems for years & another who is dealing with the puberty stage breakout we are all familiar with). Both absolutely love this product & have seen their face clear up dramatically to the point that they need to use other acne treatment products.
