History of Avon Fragrances

The founder of Avon, David H. McConnell, was a book salesman that offered perfume samples that he created himself with each book purchase. He quickly realized that the women customers were more interested in his perfume samples then the books he was selling. So in 1886, he stopped selling books & began selling perfumes. In 1892, he changed the company name to California Perfume Company due to the fact that many of his fragrances came from flowers in California where his business partner lived. In 1906, they were first to introduce the world to a musk perfume.

With the help of being able to try different samples of scents in the comfort of their own home, by the 1950’s, housewives across the country would get giddy whenever they heard “Ding, Dong Avon calling!”.

In 1973, one of Avon’s best selling perfumes, Sweet Honesty, was launched. It’s a classic blend of floral, honey, citrus and vanilla- sweetness & happiness blended perfectly together!

One of Avon’s most popular & best selling sensual scent, Imari, was introduced in 1985. A blossoming “fragrance to fire the imagination” with musk, incense & spice. In 1987, Ariane, Timeless, Candid & Foxfire were Avon’s best selling fragrances.

Since then, Avon has created a variety of fragrances & scents based on what is popular among women. Avon has even partnered up with celebrities like Derek Jeter, Reese Witherspoon, Patrick Dempsey, Fergie, Sofia Vergara & many more to create new limited edition scents. The Difference Between Types of Fragrances

Before I became an Avon representative, I never realized the difference between the types of fragrances their are out there. I always thought perfume was for her & cologne was for him. Boy was I wrong! Here is the difference:

• Parfum or Perfume: This is the most concentrated with 20%-30% of pure perfume essence. As a result, these tend to be more expensive & come in smaller quantity. However, a single application can last up to 24 hours.
• Eau de Parfum: Intended for him & her with 15%-20% of pure perfume essence with a single application lasting 5-8 hours.
• Eau de Toilette: A lighter fragrance with 5%-15% of pure perfume essence that is dissolved in alcohol. These usually last for about 3 hours.
• Cologne: This is oldest form of fragrance that is light, fresh & fruitier with 2%-4% of perfume oils dissolved in alcohol & water. These usually last for about 2 hours.

Basically what it comes down to is the higher the concentration of perfume essence, though it is more expensive, a single application lasts longer. This is very helpful information to know so you can pick the right type of fragrance that will meet your needs.
